Le plaisir des yeux
"PLAYLIST" features artists who work with cultural products, rather than with raw materials. This art of postproduction corresponds to the growing chaos of global culture.
These artists work by mixing or throwing together different films, artworks or books to produce itineraries that lead viewers through a wealth of signs, devising new ways of storing information, collecting documents or remixing existing works. They help to abolish the traditional distinction between production and consumption, creation and copy, readymade and original work of art.
"PLAYLIST" is not a show "illustrating" a theme, but a variation on a working principle (or rather a mental structure) that we might call cultural navigation, i.e., the artist as a research engine maneuvering among signs.
